Feeling unqualified?

Updated: Jul 19, 2021

In the beginning of Exodus, the Bible shows Moses being resistant to God's commands. He felt inadequate to be used by God, especially for the mission He was calling him to. He pleaded that he had a hard time speaking was not the best choice for the job. At first I was frustrated with Moses because like helloooooo!!! God! Is! Trying! To! Use! You! But then... sweet conviction. It's so funny to me when it comes, especially at those perfect moments, right when thoughts of judgment start to roll in. We are not too far off from Moses at times and many of us probably would have done the very same thing! We find ourselves telling God what we are and are not capable of, as if He didn't make us. Clay talking back to the potter. I also just had the thought that God never really asks us if we're ready, for like anything. Have you noticed that? The reasoning I came up with is that it's probably because we overthink, over analyze, and if you're a perfectionist like me, we feel like we're never going to be fully ready. After I heard this, I felt like there was suddenly a lot of comfort in that Scripture that I had never noticed before. It's comforting because it's relatable. We ask God to use us and then panic when He calls us to do something we don't feel capable of. Feeling unqualified seems to be a recurring theme when it comes to discovering God's plan for our lives. God's funny like that and does that on purpose. He's gotta be glorified through us somehow! And, feeling unqualified forces us to be dependent on Him so He could use us for what He designed us to do.
