Can the Christ be moderately important?

Last night, I was watching a movie about the life of the once famous atheist but now re-known theologian, C.S. Lewis. What a brilliant mind. A man fascinated by literature and truth had neglected the truth of Christianity as long as he could until the mercy of God illuminated that there was no other way. Something he said in the movie that really struck a chord with me was "Jesus cannot be moderately important." There is depth to this. If Jesus really is the Son of God, the Savior of the world, the One who will return to judge the earth, how can we minimize Him to a moderate amount of significance and importance in our everyday lives? Either we've grasped His identity and He is everything to us, or we haven't and we know nothing of His importance. He is important or He is not. This reminds me of what Jesus said in Revelation 3:15-16 when he was addressing the Church in Laodicea. He said, "I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth" (ESV). Jesus cannot just be a part of our life, He must be our life. Paul writes this in his letter to the church in Colossae when he said, "When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory" (Colossians 3:4, ESV). I fall very short of this. I am convicted by this question and it makes me want to know Jesus deeper so that His importance to me will multiply. His importance is unchanging but the effect of it on our lives personally can increase infinitely. I you don't know Jesus today, let me just say, He is my favorite and by far the best relationship I've been blessed with. Get to know Him today because He is important whether we realize it or not. The Gospel of John is a great place to meet Him:)
